Training on nutrition at HUB-IPROSARUDE

Various training courses are offered at HUB-IPROSARUDE including computer training and entrepreneurship training. A training on nutrition has been prepared as well and was offered to youth of Gitega. For this training, two teams of experts transmitted their knowledge to youth on nutrition.

For the second team of experts, the mission of teaching lasted 3 days. The main objective of the mission was to complete the training in nutrition on the more technical themes and to revise the concepts already learned.

These activities took place at HUB-IPROSARUDE in Gitega. Initially, the goal was to train 27 persons on nutrition. A total of 40 persons participated in this training. In order to teach and follow better these persons, the experts decided to subdivide them into 2 groups. Thus, each team was made up of 20 persons. One team attended training in the morning and the other group attended training in the afternoon.

Several themes were taught, among which we could cite:

  • The determinants, pathophysiology and consequences of malnutrition
  • The basics of malnutrition
  • Nutrient and micronutrient requirements
  • Nutrient specific needs of PLWHA (People Living With HIV/AIDS)
  • Relationship between food, nutrition and HIV / Tuberculosis
  • Breast feeding
  • Baby-friendly community
  • Balanced diet for newborns, infants, young children and pregnant women
  • Care and treatment of malnutrition
  • Care and treatment of community malnutrition
  • Food Safety
  • Links between ecological toilets and vegetable gardens in the fight against malnutrition
  • The technique and demonstration of “One pot, one hour, one complete meal”

At the end of the training, skills assessments were done in order to evaluate the level of those who followed the training. For some people, another session of the training is necessary to strengthen their knowledge.
